Years ago when I was in IT I used to work with a high school teacher who taught IT at the very high school Nikola Tesla went to, Gimnazija Gospić. One day he asked me “Do you know what Croatians are really good at?” I had no idea, and asked “what?”
“Navijanje” (cheering), he replied. When i first heard him say that I didn’t think much of it. Then the idea bounced around my head and I thought he is onto something. Such a simple observation, yet so profound. We really are good at navijanje. World class in fact.
But what good is that to us?
Was never a fan of HDZ. Back in around 2008 Ivo Sanader was announced to be arriving in Gospić for the preelection skup. I asked my colleague who was a journalist for Večernji List whether he was going. He said he isn’t going to the idiotic skup where they tamburat and the people erupt into an orgasmic frenzy. I thought that was a strange comment.
I went to the skup by myself in the end. My colleague was right, on the surface it was just as he said.
However, deep down when you analyze whats going on, there is a lot more to it. HDZ knows Croatians love to navijat (cheer) so they create an environment that encourages that sort of behaviour. They bring in singers to sing nationalistic songs and stir the crowd up into a frenzy which is artificially created by a small group that uses herd behaviour as their method. In this orgasmic frenzy and speech making, for those who know a bit about marketing and psychology, they essentially brain wash the unweary public.
It almost is like a scene out of the 1984 movie where they have Two Minutes of Hate. The people unwearingly come to have phrases uploaded into their minds. Like a cult leader that manipulates its followers into unquestioning belief in him. HDZ has weaponized Croatians passion for navijanje and created their own political cult with it.
This simple transmutation of a passion into political slavery needs to be studied and taken advantage of. We too must learn how to transmutate this passion.
Croatians love to cheer for their sporting heroes. We need to transmutate that passion they have for cheering for sporting heroes into navijanje for the whole narod and nation in a positive way.
The name Croatians United wasn’t chosen just like that. It is actually such a marketing weapon. More on that topic some other time.
